Seal Beach Residents May See Upped Police Presence Starting Feb. 6

SEAL BEACH, CA — Seal Beach residents may see an increase in law enforcement activities in and around the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station starting Monday, Feb. 6, as base personnel take part in an annual series of nationwide security exercises, the city said Thursday.

The exercise, known as the Citadel Shield-Solid Curtain 2023, will be held simultaneously on Navy bases throughout the United States. During the training, drills will be conducted on a wide range of potential security scenarios.

Residents can expect to see increased traffic around the weapons station, delays in base access and temporary gate closures, the city said.

The station's mass notification loudspeaker and alarm may also be used.

The exercises are expected to run for two weeks and finish by Friday, Feb. 17, and are not prompted by any specific threat, the city said. The series of exercises are a part of regularly scheduled annual training that is developed to better the readiness of Navy security teams, the city said.
