SEAL BEACH, CA — A cooling center will remain open in Seal Beach through Friday in response to high temperatures expected in the area this week, city officials announced.
The cooling center opened Monday at the Seal Beach Tennis & Pickleball Center, 3900 Lampson Ave., and will operate from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily through Friday.
Officials said the city will reevaluate temperatures before the weekend to determine whether the cooling center should remain open.
The center offers air conditioning, water, television, tables and chairs, officials said.
Residents were urged to drink plenty of water, limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day and seek air-conditioned spaces when possible.
Officials also encouraged residents to check on older adults, young children and others who may be particularly vulnerable to extreme heat or who lack access to air conditioning. Children and pets should never be left unattended in parked vehicles.
