SEAL BEACH, CA — Pacific Coast Highway was shut down in Seal Beach Tuesday morning when combined king tides and a Kelvin wave brought an inundation of flooding to the roadway.
The closure was issued at 10:30 a.m. by Caltrans and impacts both directions of the highway.
According to Caltrans, the closure spans from Warner Avenue in Huntington Beach to Seal Beach Boulevard in Seal Beach.
The northbound side of Pacific Coast Highway is also closed between Seapoint Street and Warner Avenue due to high tides, Caltrans said.
The high tides also prompted city officials in Newport Beach to temporarily close the waterway beneath the Newport Boulevard Bridge from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, after Monday brought massive flooding to the Balboa Peninsula for a second time this month.
According to city officials, the waterway is being closed to "protect nearby properties from potential flooding caused by boat wakes during the morning high tide, which is expected to reach 8.5 feet at approximately 9:50 a.m."
