CYPRESS, CA — A 5-year-old gelding died after suffering a racing injury at Los Alamitos Race Course on Halloween night, the 14th racing or training death at the track this year, state horse racing officials said Tuesday.
Pine Run was injured during Saturday's first race, eventually finishing sixth out of eight horses. The official race chart said he "led inside, overtaken upper stretch, weakened," and was taken off by ambulance.
Los Alamitos canceled the final six races of its planned eight-race card on Saturday night due to heavy rain.
The Cypress track has seen 13 racing deaths and one training death this year, after experienced 19 racing and training deaths in 2025, according to California Horse Racing Board data.
