Another Horse Dies At Los Alamitos Racetrack, 2nd This Week
A 9-year-old gelding has died after suffering an injury in a race at Los Alamitos.
LOS ALAMITOS, CA — A 9-year-old gelding has died after suffering an injury in a race at Los Alamitos, the track's second horse fatality in the last week and fourth this year, state horse racing officials reported Tuesday.
Took Charge finished last in Sunday's third race and was ambulanced off the track, according to the official race chart. He died the same day, according to the California Horse Racing Board, which described it as a racing death, but listed it under the "non-musculoskeletal and other" category.

Took Charge had 34 career races and six first-place finishes in his career. The majority of his races were at Los Alamitos or Santa Anita Park in Arcadia.
He is the fourth horse to die from a racing or training injury at the Cypress track this year, including Exhalting, an 8-year-old gelding who died March 13, nearly a week after suffering a racing injury at Los Alamitos.
