Armed Man Triggers Standoff, Lockdown Of Westminster City Buildings: Police

WESTMINSTER, CA — A man was arrested after an hours-long standoff that triggered a lockdown of buildings in the Westminster Civic Center area.

The incident started at around 1:45 p.m. Wednesday when the Los Angeles Police Department tracked a felony suspect to the area of 15th Street and Beach Boulevard, according to the Westminster Police Department.

According to Westminster Police Department Mike Harvey, the suspect ran from officers and fled into a building housing several county offices.

As a result, multiple buildings in the civic center area were locked down and streets were closed as police worked to make contact with the suspect.

Workers inside the building were eventually escorted out of the structure as the standoff continued.

Around 9:30 p.m., the suspect was located and taken into custody on the roof of the building. Video from the scene showed fire crews using a hoist to lower the suspect to the ground, where he checked by paramedics. It was unclear what type of injuries he may have sustained, if any.

The Orange County Register reported from the scene that the man was wanted for assault with a deadly weapon, and a gun believed to be linked to the suspect was found in the building.

The suspect's name was not immediately released.
