Attempted Carjacking Suspect Arrested, Seal Beach Cops Say

SEAL BEACH, CA — A suspicious person seen at the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station was arrested Monday night, following an extensive manhunt through the Seal Beach area, officials said.

"On Monday, July 31st, 2017, the Seal Beach Police Department arrested Elin Carrillo-Hernandez, a 43-year-old resident of Los Angeles, for attempted carjacking," Seal Beach Police Department Sgt. Michael Henderson said.

Earlier in the day, Monday, the California Highway Patrol requested assistance from the Seal Beach Police Department regarding a call of a suspicious suspect on or near the 405 freeway at the Seal Beach Boulevard exit, Henderson said. Officers responded, but were unable to locate the suspect.

"Several hours later Security Officers from the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station observed a suspect trespassing on the military base," Henderson said. "They requested the assistance of the Seal Beach Police, and as they were tracking the suspect, he fled by climbing over the perimeter fence."

Carrillo-Hernandez ran onto Seal Beach Bl. near the Leisure World retirement community and vehicle traffic stopped for the fleeing suspect and pursuing Officers.

"Carrillo-Hernandez approached a stopped vehicle and attempted to force his way into the car," Henderson said. "He was unable to gain access to the car and Officers apprehended him soon after."

Carrillo-Hernandez was arrested and booked at the Orange County jail on charges of Attempted Carjacking, Resisting Arrest and Possession of Narcotics Paraphernalia according to Henderson.
