Back To School: Los Alamitos 2021-22 School Calendar

LOS ALAMITOS, CA — Back-to-school planning has already begun in Los Alamitos, with calendars available to help parents prepare for the first day in Los Alamitos Unified School District.

Weaver Elementary school students start Wednesday, Aug. 4! However, the first day of school for most students in Los Alamitos is Aug. 16.

Heading into the upcoming school year, some dates are subject to change as the coronavirus pandemic nears its year-and-a-half point. A mix of in-person, virtual and hybrid learning is still possible in Los Alamitos.

During the ongoing pandemic, the Los Alamitos Unified School District school board is turning to state guidance and parent intervention in advance of the school year. Superintendent Andrew Pulver told the School Board at a recent meeting that “mask enforcement and other guidance issues are causing a lot of confusion for superintendents across the state.”

State public health officials have suggested that schools find alternative educational opportunities for students who are excluded from campus because they will not wear a face covering, according to the state public health officials in an emailed statement.

Pulver said Orange County superintendents met with Dr. Clayton Chau, the Orange County Health Care Agency director, and "expressed our frustrations," according to a report from Spectrum News.

The number of positive coronavirus cases that began at Los Alamitos Unified School District schools amounted to about 1.4 percent of the cases in Orange County last year, according to the Health Care Agency.
