Barricade At Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station, One Detained

Base security investigated a suspicious person near a Naval Weapons Station residence, where a suspect barricaded himself inside for hours.

SEAL BEACH, CA —Authorities investigating a suspicious person at Naval Weapons Station in Seal Beach endured a barricade situation on base Thursday, officials say. The incident began early Thursday morning and ended when one suspect walked out and surrendered, according to authorities.

Naval Weapons Station security were called about 8:30 a.m. when a resident in the housing area on the base reported a "suspicious person," said Gregg Smith, a spokesman for the Naval Weapons Station.

"When base security and Seal Beach police pulled up, it turned into a barricade situation," Smith said.

The suspect walked out without incident just after noon, Smith said.

That man is was questioned, he added. Base security detained another in that same instance. No words of arrests were made, and the nature of the call was not released.

"We don't believe there was ever any threat to the surrounding community or the Naval Weapons Station," Smith said.
