Bond King, Offspring Donate Millions To Orange County Charities

Retired billionaire William Gross, of PIMCO and Janus fame, measures success by "what we can do to benefit & help others around the world."

ORANGE COUNTY CA — One day before Giving Tuesday, a South Orange County businessman, together with his children, announced their total donations for the year. To date, in 2019, the William, Jeff and Jennifer Gross Family Foundation has given $19 million to nonprofits across the nation, down $2 million from 2018's donations. Six Orange County nonprofits reaped the benefits of their attention, according to a statement released from the foundation.

In Laguna Beach and Orange County, PIMCO founder William Gross funded Children's Hospital of Orange County, the Anaheim Community Foundation, the Laguna Beach Community Clinic, the Laguna Food Pantry, the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach and the Laguna Beach Senior Center.

  • Wilcox Health Foundation $2,750,000
  • The New York Times Neediest Cases Fund $2,100,000
  • Doctors Without Borders $2,100,000

  • CHOC Foundation $2,000,000
  • Atrium Health Foundation $2,000,000
  • Sustainable Development Solutions Network $1,350,000
  • Harbor Day School $1,000,000

The foundation's donations focused on issues such as sustainable development, healthcare, and global hunger.

"I am pleased to work with Jennifer and Jeff and to identify and support the meaningful and important work of organizations that benefit local and global communities," said Gross, co-founder of the Newport Beach-based global investment management firm. "While I previously measured success by business accomplishments, success is now a function of what we can do to benefit and help others around the world."

Gross has said that he will donate all proceeds from past and upcoming auctions of his world-renowned stamp collection to charity.
