A lovely afternoon

The perfect, sunny afternoon of a retiree and her dog and cat. Perfection never lasts.

Wasn't it a gorgeous day today?

I love the day after a rain, when the clouds are puffy, and the air smells good.

So, on  my way to take out the newspapers, I couldn't resist sitting on the patio for a few minutes.  After that searing heat we've been suffering, it was the first time in weeks I could actually sit in the sun and like it.  Cool breeze on my face, and clouds moving across my head.

As I was sitting, I thought to myself what a perfect day this is and how lucky I am not to be at work, missing it.  I thought, "Here's my dog lying at my feet, the neighbor's cat curled up on one of the cushioned patio chairs, and I'm so lucky!"

Fortunately for the Irish in me, I didn't have to wait too long to pay for thinking about how good things are.  (My Mom, and all Irish relatives, would get nervous and watch out for trolls if I talked about the good luck I had).

Things changed suddenly when I simply got up to water a few plants.  My movement got the cat's attention, so he stood up on the chair.   The dog then started over to the cat, to harass him.  The cat jumped in front of me, and took off running for the fence.  My dog followed like a freight train, in spite of my yelling "No!"  Of course, the dog ran into the birdbath, and knocked it over, breaking the pedestal.

It was still a pretty good ten minutes!
