Griffins Dominate in Volleyball Championship Game
The Los Al Griffins defeated S. Torrance in their first tourney championship game and are undefeated, 6-0.
The Griffins, led by a smiling and zealous team captain, Alijah Gunsaulus, pounded South Torrance in a tournament championship match up at the Gahr Tournament Monday evening. The Griffins defeated South Torrance in the best of 5 matches, 25-21, 25-17, and 25-14.
The Griffins began the first match a bit timid. Quickly, the Griffins found their rhythm. With inspiring blocks by sophomore powerhouse Crissy Jones, the Griffins earned points by hustle, precision kills, excellent serves, and great passing.
The Griffins in matches 2 and 3 matched points early on in each match. Again, with inspiring hustle, stifling blocks, and good passing and service, the Griffins were able to score in big chunks, which frustrated runner-up South Torrance.

Sophomore Crissy Jones spent her summer playing beach volleyball and working out with her jumping ability. During each match, Jones was all but a brick wall for her South Torrance opponents. Jones also served well, providing blocking, serving, and kills. “I played beach volleyball almost every weekend and worked out for the entire summer to be ready for season,” said Jones.
Coach Dave Huber returns for his fifth season as head coach. “I am very proud of our squad tonight. We moved through the tournament and have played very well and it’s great to see the team so proud,” said Huber. “We did a lot of good things tonight and I’m sure this will be a catalyst for each team member to play as best as they can as they did tonight,” added Huber.
