What I learned about Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year in our Los Al Schools

As president of LAEF, I had the honor of attending two Chinese New Year’s celebrations at McGaugh and Weaver.

Here is a little history that I learned about the Chinese New Year – it is a time to welcome longevity, wealth and prosperity and eliminate any negative chi from the past.  The fourteen day celebration is very symbolic. Each year is dedicated to a specific animal; this is the year of the Snake.  It is said that people who are born in the year of the Snake have the following personality traits: kind, vibrant, introspective and refined.

These wonderful celebrations were made possible by LAEF and the organization that teaches Chinese after school in many of our elementary schools. If you have more interest in learning about the Chinese classes, checkout LAEF4Kids.org.
