BREAKING: UPDATE: Family in Fatal Tesla Crash Suffers Loss of 7-year-old Daughter

Family in Tesla suffers loss of 7-year-old daughter, 13-year-old in critical condition in multi-vehicle collision Monday on 405 Freeway.

SEAL BEACH, CA — Morning traffic took a deadly turn on Monday when a multi-vehicle crash on the San Diego (405) Freeway in Seal Beach today killed a 7-year-old girl, critically injured her 13-year-old sister and also left their father hospitalized.

The collision involving at least three vehicles happened about 9:15 a.m. on the northbound 405, just north of Seal Beach Boulevard, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Denise Quesada.

"All of the victims were in one car," Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi said.

A 2013 Chevy Tahoe SUV slammed into a 2015 Tesla S in the carpool lane on the 405 freeway, according to California Highway Patrol officer Tom Joy.

Reports state that the Tahoe was "swerving in and out of lanes" and crossed double yellow lanes near Seal Beach Boulevard exit on the 405 Northbound.

The Tesla was crumpled into a 2012 Honda Civic by the Tahoe, according to reports from the scene by Joy. Both children were in the back seat of the car.

"The 7-year-old was transported to the hospital in grave condition, and was pronounced dead at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center and her 13-year-old sister was in critical condition," Concialdi said.

Donald Geddis of Hillsborough — who was driving the Tesla — was transported as a trauma patient and admitted to the same hospital in moderate condition. No other injuries were reported, according to Concialdi. The names of the family members have not immediately been released. At least two other vehicles were involved in the collision.

Joy stated that the DUI suspect, who was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe, was in the fast lane when he swerved into one of two carpool lanes, crashing into the Tesla carrying Geddis and his daughters.

Upon impact, "the Tesla then crashed into a Honda Civic, but no one in that car was hurt," Joy said. "(Kanas) insisted on being taken to an area hospital for evaluation."

According to reports, CHP was attempting to locate a possible DUI vehicle matching the description of the Chevy Tahoe when he encountered the traffic collision which had just occurred.

Adam Kanas, a 36-year-old man from San Clemente, was arrested on suspicion of Driving Under the Influence and booked into Orange County Jail, Joy reported.
