I play all the time. I accept challengers in all sports, including ping-pong, darts, bowling, and anything else that one can WIN. The aspect of ‘play’ makes games and exercising much more interesting and fun for everyone. When you think about it, ping-pong and bowling don’t seem like high intensity games but they can still get your heart rate up and help relieve stress in the same way a game of basketball can. What’s the most fun part of your regular workout? Is there any ‘play’ in your resistance training or weightlifting?
Need a change of pace from your daily run or your regular workout at the gym? Get a group of friends together for a game night. Be it racquetball, the batting cages, golf, or lawn bowling, keeping track of score or progress will add a new element to physical activity. Group fitness classes can also be great ways to compete in a healthy way with friends. In CrossFit, we try to run faster, lift more, and score higher than the friends we work out with. The community-based aspect of fitness settings add a welcoming and friendly feel to an environment that will guaranteed improve the quality of your life. This type of workout is different than most others in the sense that CrossFit has added “play” to strength, power, endurance, stamina, agility, coordination, flexibility, and speed training.
