Downtown Disney Fire At New Bowling Alley Construction Site

A small fire prompted evacuations in Downtown Disney late Saturday. Shoppers enjoying dinner, shopping and holiday lights saw the flames.

ANAHEIM, CA — A small fire erupted Saturday night at Downtown Disney's new construction site, Splitsville. Shoppers and diners near Disneyland, strolling the Downtown Disney shops and eating at restaurants, smelled smoke at approximately 9:30 p.m. Saturday night. According to one Twitter user, smoke could be smelled as far as Disneyland Hotel's Frontier Tower.

Disneyland Fire Department and Anaheim Fire and Rescue received the 911 call and responded to the blaze at approximately 9:40 p.m., according to Sgt. Daron Wyatt of Anaheim Fire & Rescue.

"It was a small dumpster fire in a construction zone near Downtown Disney," Wyatt told Patch. "The fire was quickly extinguished and operations were back to normal within about 10 minutes. No guests were in danger."

"The cause is under investigation," Wyatt said.

Splitsville is a 40,000-square-foot, two-story facility taking shape in Downtown Disney and blocked off with fencing. It will be brightened with floor-to-ceiling windows, ample outdoor seating in an expansive patio overlooking Downtown Disney District, two state-of-the-art kitchens, and live entertainment daily, according to Disneyland News.

This is a developing story. More will be added as it is made available.
