Dozens Of OC Parents May Face Criminal Charges Stemming From E-Bike, E-Moto Cases

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — County prosecutors are going over more than two dozen open investigations into parents of children suspected of illegally riding e-bikes or e-motorcycles, officials said this week.

According to The Orange County District Attorney's Office, prosecutors have 26 open investigations into parents that could potentially result in criminal cases.

The information was delivered during a community meeting in Seal Beach, according to district attorney Spokesperson Kimberly Edds.

"E-bikes and e-motorcycles are now the number one reason Orange County children end up in the emergency room," Spitzer said in a statement. "This is a serious public health crisis, and we are doing everything we can to reduce injuries and save lives."

"If parents refuse to hold their children accountable, then the Orange County District Attorney's Office will hold parents accountable when they endanger the lives of their children and the lives of everyone on the road," Spitzer said.

The news comes two months after the district attorney's office created a special unit to assess potential charges against both kids and adults related to the underage use of e-bikes and e-motorcycles.
