Drive-By Zoo Delights Los Alamitos Families
Residents cheered up their front lawns with these fun stuffed animal zoo displays during the coronavirus shut down. Did you participate?
LOS ALAMITOS, CA ā Did you see them? Los Alamitos families recently took part transforming their front yards into something wild and wonderful: the first ever Los Alamitos Drive By Zoo. The Los Alamitos Recreation and Community Services Department encouraged residents to gather stuffed animals to display in their front yard for last week.
The numerous yard exhibits showcased stuffed animals in unique ways for the community to enjoy as they drove through our neighborhoods. Los Alamitos, as ever, did not disappoint in their imaginative yard creations, from flamingos across the front yard to chalk drawings on the sidewalk.
Some parents and kids made zoo enclosures with animal fencing or out of cardboard boxes. Others created an ocean wonderland with blue tarps spread out, littered with ocean animals.

The Bailey Sea was a tarp of blue, stretched out and dotted with stuffed animals including an octopus, manta ray, sea lion, otter, and of course, Nemo.
Another yard was transformed into a frozen wonderland, where a white sheet "mountain" was dotted with stuffed penguins, polar bears and snow leopards.

Imagination and how to set up the drive by zoo was up to the families, but there were many entrants to the day.
"We can't thank you enough for lifting the community's spirits and being part of the Los Al Zoo festivities," a spokesperson from the community services department said. "We may just have to do this again."
The Los Alamitos Recreation and Community Services Department continues to provide activities for Los Alamitos during these unprecedented times.
