"The goal is to provide the public with a safe, convenient, and anonymous way to dispose of potentially dangerous, expired, unused, or unwanted prescription medications," Seal Beach Police Department Spokesperson Julia Clasby said. "This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue."
According to Clasby, medications left in home cabinets are vulnerable to misuse and abuse — and improper disposal methods like flushing medication down the toilet or tossing them in trash can harm the environment and public health.

"Throughout Orange County, we hear of tragic events involving overdoses caused by prescription medications," said Seal Beach Chief of Police Michael Henderson. "By creating this opportunity for our community to safely dispose of unused and expired medications, we aim to reduce access to these potentially dangerous substances."
This year's drug take-back event takes place on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Seal Beach Police Department, 911 Seal Beach Boulevard.
