Golf Cart, Bike Thefts Up In Seal Beach: What To Know

SEAL BEACH, CA — Golf cart and bicycle thefts are on the rise in Seal Beach's Leisure World community, the Seal Beach Police Department reported.

In light of the uptick of thefts, the department released a list of tips and tricks for residents to use in order to keep their property safe.

Officers asked residents to keep the following in mind when protecting their property:

• Keep golf carts and bicycles in an area that is well-lit, or in front of motion-activated flood lights. According to the department, most thefts have been reported occurring during nighttime hours when criminals are using the cover of darkness to steal in the community.

• Do not leave keys with or near your golf cart, even when living in a gated community. Keep important keys locked inside of your residence.
• Keep a clear record of your golf cart or bicycle serial number, as well as the make and model. Generic descriptions alone generally are not enough to identify a stolen bike or golf cart.
• Always report suspicious activity in your community directly to the authorities.
