Los Al 'Heroes of the Heart' Award to Boeing Director

LOS ALAMITOS, CA — The Los Alamitos Unified School District board recently honored the Boeing Company for its continuing support of schools.

In presenting the Heroes of the Heart Award to William Cusato, Boeing’s director of service engineering and operations, Board President Meg Cutuli praised him and the company for donating time, money and materials to enhance staff development and student programs for the past 10 years.

The company has contributed more than $500,000, Cutuli said, and has been instrumental in helping the district build its STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts and Mathematics) program.

“I remember years ago you would actually bring us backpacks loaded with school supplies for our needy children,” Cutuli said. “You guys have just run the gamut. You have enhanced the education of our children immensely. We are so grateful.”

Superintendent Sherry Kropp said Boeing financed Los Alamitos High’s first robotics team and has supported engineering programs at the high school and “maker spaces” that allow elementary and middle schools to invent and innovate. In addition, many Boing employees have spoken at schools and participated in projects with students, including the annual mentor breakfast that connects Los Alamitos students with working professionals, she said.

In accepting the award on behalf of Boeing, Cusato, parent of a Los Alamitos High junior, said his company is “proud of our history and our relationship with the Los Alamitos school district. We are honored to partner with the Los Alamitos community for the future. What your teachers do for our students, who become our employees, means we are all in this together. We appreciate what you do.”
