Los Alamitos 5th Graders Celebrate Success In Leadership Council
Leaders Gonna Lead at Hopkinson Elementary School.

LOS ALAMITOS, CA — Hopkinson’s 5 th Grade Leadership Council attended a special after school event on March 24 celebrated a successful year of service-based leadership.
Over 50 students experienced a night of leadership training. They began with a meal, created a vision board for the future, went on a scavenger hunt, saw a TED talk about being an innovator, and planned a kindness kickoff.
Proudly wearing t-shirts stating “Leaders Gonna Lead,” our Huskies shared memories of how they have grown as leaders through the mentorship of Principal, Mrs. Garcia, and 5 th Grade leadership advisor, Mrs. Shafer. Leadership students worked diligently throughout the year to facilitate school-wide activities and events. They have become a strong group who makes an impact daily on our school culture. Hopkinson Elementary School has a philosophy that we are all equipped to be leaders and that each of us can impact the community in a positive way.

The culminating activity of the evening was for the leaders to contribute to two bulletin boards that are displayed in the front office of the school encouraging the school community to, “throw kindness like confetti,” and to, “choose kind.” Giving back to the local community and understanding the meaning of philanthropy is a key goal of the Husky Leadership Council.
