Los Alamitos High School Academic Decathlon Winners Celebrated
The Los Alamitos High School Academic Decathlon Team won over 30 awards in the World War II themed contest.

LOS ALAMITOS, CA — Who says learning can't be fun? It has been over 13 years since Los Al took home a big prize in the county-wide academic decathlon. This year, in 2017, the team took home some serious hardware.
The Los Alamitos Unified School District school board honored the Los Alamitos High Academic Decathlon team was honored for knowing their stuff in the recent World War II themed competition.
The Academic Decathlon team was honored for reviving the squad after a 13-year hiatus and winning their division in the annual county competition.

Principal Martinez said the 11-student team, under the leadership of head coach Kendall Ostermann and assistant coaches Josh Lee, Samantha Burke, Janice Tiratira and Krista Trescott—all Los Alamitos High teachers—won 33 medals in the 10-event competition which included speeches, an essay and a high-pressure Super Quiz.
