Los Alamitos Issues Flood Warning As Storm Barrels Down

Sandbags are available at Los Alamitos City Hall as the worst storm in years moves into the region.

LOS ALAMITOS, CA — As the largest storm to hit Los Alamitos in years barrels down, city officials are warning residents to take extra precautions because of the flood threat.

National Weather Service forecasters are predicting as much as an inch per hour of rain during the heaviest showers Friday night.

“A strong winter storm is in the forecast to impact Los Alamitos Friday through Saturday, with the heaviest rainfall and damaging winds occurring Late Friday,” according to a warning sent out by the City Manager’s office. “This storm has significant potential to create flooding in the City of Los Alamitos, and residents are encouraged to take necessary precautions to protect their property. The City has sandbags available on a first come first serve basis that can be picked up at Los Alamitos City Hall parking lot at 3191 Katella Avenue (west side of City Hall) thru 4 p.m. on Friday.”

Residents experiencing an emergency should call 911 while all other storm problems can be addressed by call non- emergency police dispatch at (562) 594-7232 or public works until 10 p.m. friday at (562) 431-3538.

California Highway Patrol officials are warning drivers to avoid flooded areas and drive with lights on at cautious speeds.
