Los Alamitos/Seal Beach Rotary Club Dec. 6 Meeting

LOS ALAMITOS, CA — The Los Alamitos/Seal Beach Rotary powered through their regular Griffin's Grill meeting with high-profile speakers this month. From District Attorney Tony Rackauckas to Tom Lent—the incoming president of Southland Credit Union, to the owner of Griffin's Grill, Matt Herrick and finally the Superintendent of the Los Alamitos Unified School District, Dr. Sherry Kropp.

Kropp discussed the meeting as well as the notable speakers with Patch.

"The Los Alamos/Seal beach Rotary was fortunate to have the District Attorney of Orange County, Mr. Tony Rackauckas, as the guest speaker, according to Sherry Kropp, Superintendent of Los Alamos Unified School District. "Mr. Rackauckas talked about the successes of the District Attorney’s office, the number of cases prosecuted, and the strong law enforcement presence in Orange County."

Rackauckas is currently serving his fifth term as the District Attorney, and was a former Superior Court Judge.

"During this same meeting, one of our newest Rotary members, Tom Lent, gave a 'craft talk' as an introduction to the other members," she said.

Tom Lent, of Southland Credit Union, will be the President/CEO beginning January 3, 2017.

"Lent was raised in Long Beach and found success in athletics, mainly football, and majored in Business at California State University, Long Beach," she said.

Lent and his wife have six children, all who attended Los Alamitos schools.

"Four have graduated from college, one is a senior at LAHS, and one is in middle school," Kropp said. "Both Tom and Southland Credit Union are an incredible asset for the many community-based organizations in the area."

During this same meeting, new member, Matt Herrick, gave a 'craft talk.'

"Mr. Herrick is the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Southland Credit Union and the owner of Griffins Grill," Kropp said.

Griffins Grill is Matt’s third restaurant, and coupled with his employment at Southland, ensures that he is busy working and immersing himself in numerous community activities.

"Matt said that joining Rotary provided an opportunity to give back to the community that has afforded him such opportunities and success," Kropp said. "Matt lives in the community, has a baby girl and a son who attends school in the Los Alamitos school district."

Superintendant Kropp also gave a talk during the meeting, presenting highlights of the District, as well as sharing student successes, and discussing future school district goals. Dr. Kropp has been with Los Alamitos Unified since 1985 and has served as the Superintendent for six years.
