LOS ALAMITOS, CA — The Los Alamitos Unified School District board honored its high school varsity song squad for winning back-to-back national titles this season.
The 13-member Los Alamitos High team, coached by Jennifer Ramirez, took the top prize in both the Pom and Jazz categories in the national championships in Orlando.
Ramirez said the team decided early in the year “that nothing would get in their way, nothing would hold them back” in their effort to repeat as national champs. “And they did it,” Ramirez told the board.

Los Alamitos High Principal Brandon Martinez praised the team’s “precision and determination to compete against the best in the nation.”
Unlike other sports, in which players can recover from mistakes and still prevail, song athletes “have 90 seconds to get it right the first time,” Martinez said.

In presenting the team with a certificate of achievement, District Superintendent Sherry Kropp described the team, whose academic average is 3.7, as a group of “lovely young women, who represent everything we would want in our young people in their respect and kindness. We couldn’t be prouder.”
