North Orange County Inmate, Arrested Last Week, Dies At Area Hospital

A man arrested one week ago by Huntington Beach police died at a hospital after suffering a "medical issue," OCSD reports.

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA — An inmate housed at the Men’s Central Jail in Santa Ana died at a local hospital Tuesday after suffering a medical issue, the Orange County Sheriff's Department reported.

The unidentified 50-year-old inmate who died in custody was originally arrested by the Huntington Beach Police Department on July 6, and held due to multiple outstanding arrest warrants. Little information was released, including the inmate’s name, which is being withheld pending notification to next of kin.

"The inmate was pronounced deceased at the hospital after being transferred there on the morning of July 11 for a medical issue," a spokesperson for the department said.

A final cause of death will be determined following toxicology and an independent autopsy.

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office will investigate the in-custody death. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department will conduct an in-custody death review. No additional information will be released at this time.
