Oak MS Celebrates New Music Room

New equipment and facilities will benefit many music students for a long time

Oak MS celebrated its newly renovated music room in a ceremony attended by students, teachers, parents, and administration. Oak Principal Sally Neiser, LAUSD board member Meg Cutuli, Oak Instrumental Music Director Justin Padilla, and Superintendent Sherry Kropp served as the official ribbon cutters.

The new room marks the completion of the district’s modernization projects that have been authorized and orchestrated by the school board and district administration over the past several years. But this project had additional benefactors. Students made and signed posters to thank the Oak PTA and the Philharmonic Society for their gracious contributions. Members of both organizations were on hand to address the students and to acknowledge their thanks. Drum students cut the ribbon on four new Yamaha timpani that were a gift from the Philharmonic Society.

The new room includes new storage cabinets, acoustic ceiling panels, and chairs. Oak Music has several performing groups for different levels of experience, including jazz band, philharmonic orchestra, string orchestra , symphonic winds, concert winds, and concert band. All groups give several concerts during the year, and more advanced groups also perform at community events and music festivals. The music program will benefit from the improved facilities and new equipment for many years to come.
