WESTMINSTER, CA — Malls across Orange County are being given new life by being redeveloped into mixed-use developments with shopping and homes in an effort to increase the county's housing supply, The Los Angeles Times reported.

The enclosed, two-level Westminster Shopping Mall is one of the sites that Westminster City officials hope to convert into a new kind of mall — one with outdoor trails, apartments and expansive green lawns.

According to the report, the new mall would hold at least 600,000 square-feet of retail space, 3,000 residential units and up to 425 hotel rooms. The new mall would also be surrounded by a park with 17 acres of green space.
