Our County, Our Kids Hosts Adoption Month Celebration

Annual Event Commemorates Forever Families and Raises Awareness of Children and Youth Waiting for Homes

November is National Adoption Month, a nation-wide initiative designed to increase awareness as to the need for permanent families for more than 100,000 foster youth in the country’s foster care system. On average, Santa Barbara County finalizes approximately 90 foster youth adoptions annually, while over 100 Santa Barbara County foster youth await forever families.

On Wednesday, November 16, 2016, the Santa Maria Juvenile Court will join courts across the country in celebration of National Adoption Month. The Honorable Arthur A. Garcia will finalize 7 adoptions for local foster youth as part of this nationwide initiative and recognition of adoptive families. Our County, Our Kids is joining the Juvenile Court in celebrating the adoption process and the local adoptive families at this special celebration.

Beginning at 12:30 p.m., local adoptive parents and children with a variety of diverse backgrounds will gather to celebrate their families and share their unique adoption stories. Anyone interested in learning more about adoption or the many ways to become a resource for local foster children and youth is encouraged to Visit www.ourcountyourkids.org/sbc for more information.
