Overnight 405 Freeway Closures Begin For $1.9 Billion Project

Nighttime lane closures begin in the the $1.9 billion I-405 Improvement Project.

LOS ALAMITOS, CA — Nighttime lane closures along the busiest stretch of freeway in the world began this week and will continue for months as part of the I-405 Improvement Project.

This week, lane and ramp closures have affected residents from Seal Beach Boulevard in Seal Beach and Magnolia Street in Fountain Valley.

Nightly closures will start as early as 9 p.m. and are expected to be finished by 5 a.m.weekdays and 7 a.m. weekends. The Orange County Transportation recommends that drivers plan ahead to avoid getting caught up in the closures.

The $1.9 billion adds one rEgular lane in each direction of the 405 Freeway between Euclid Street and I-605. It also adds a second lane in each direction to create the 405 Express Lanes, which will include the carpool lanes.
“Weather permitting, construction activities will continue over the next few months, including restriping portions of the freeway and setting up concrete barrier on the outside of the freeway to protect work areas for activities such as tree removals and grading,” OCTA announced.
