- Fireworks can send your pets running, so keep your pooch and kitty indoors, if possible, or confined to a secure area (never tether an animal because it can lead to more harm or an accidental death).
- Double check yard gates to make sure that pets cannot escape.
- Make sure pets are wearing identification, including the name and current telephone number of owner.
- Anyone who loses an animal on July 4 in the city of Long Beach, Los Alamitos, Seal Beach, Signal Hill or Cerritos should visit www.petharbor.com or the City's pet lost and found online at www.longbeach.gov/acs.
- If you don’t see your lost pet online, you can also visit the local shelter at 7700 E. Spring Street in person on July 5 from 10 am to 5:30 pm. Residents of Seal Beach can also check with the Seal Beach Animal Care Center at 1700 Adolfo Lopez Drive. To reach the Seal Beach Center, call (562) 430-4993.
- The Long Beach shelter will be closed July 4, but animal control officers will respond 24-hours a day to emergency calls, such as stray and injured animals and animals that have bitten or scratched others.
- LBACS staff will contact owners of lost pets if the pets have identification tags or microchips. Animals with identification will be held at the Village for fourteen days, pending being claimed by their owner. Animals without identification will be held for a minimum of six days before being evaluated for adoption.
- The shelter is open to the public Wednesday through Friday, from 10 am to 5:30 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm. The shelter is closed on Monday, Tuesday and holidays. For Animal Care Services or more information call 562-570-7387. After-hours emergency phone calls for services are automatically transferred to the Fire Department for dispatch service.
