Presidential Candidate Rand Paul to Hold OC Fundraiser

Three days after declaring his candidacy, Sen. Rand Paul heads to Newport Beach for $10,400 per person fundraiser.

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul will conduct a fundraiser in Newport Beach tonight, three days after declaring his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination, according to a published report.

Paul will attend the fundraiser at the home of Ron Sechrist, the founder of Anaheim-based Sechrist Industries, the manufacturer of hyperbaric oxygen chambers and respiratory equipment, and his wife Helena, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Supporters are being asked to contribute up to $10,400 to a joint fundraising committee composed of Paul’s Senate re-election committee and his political action committee, according to an invitation obtained by The Times.

The $10,400 figure stems from the federal limits of $2,700 to a candidate per election (primary and general) and the$5,000 annual limit for contributions to a political action committee.

Paul is also seeking re-election to his Senate seat in 2016.

In a video released Sunday, Paul billed himself as “a different kind of Republican” able to “defeat the Washington machine.”

The 52-year-old Paul declared his presidential candidacy Tuesday with a speech in Louisville, Kentucky, explaining that his “vision for America” includes “a return to government restrained by the Constitution” and “a return to privacy, opportunity and liberty.”

Paul expressed his support for a balanced budget constitutional amendment and term limits for Congress. He also promoted the “Read the Bills” resolution he introduced in March that would change Senate rules to provide sufficient time for legislation to be read before it is considered.

Paul said his “vision for America,” which envisions school choice and the creation of “Economic Freedom Zones,” offers “opportunity to all Americans, especially those who have been left behind.”

Paul also called for a defense posture that is “unparalleled, undefeatable and unencumbered by overseas nation-building,”

Paul, a son of former Rep. Ron Paul, a three-time presidential candidate, is in the midst of a five-day, six-state tour, mainly of the early caucus and primary states of New Hampshire, South Carolina, Iowa and Nevada.
