MAJOR ELECTIONS
The races that will be on all ballots in California are those for the presidential primary, senate and Proposition 50.
Here in Orange County, voters will also weigh in on several local congressional and judicial races as well as two countywide ballot measures.
Measure A is a campaign finance watchdog measure that asks voters to "establish a Campaign Finance and Ethics Commission consisting of five members selected by the Board of Supervisors, to provide oversight of the countyās campaign reform ordinance.ā
If Measure B passes, all future ballot measures would include a cost estimate, letting voters know how much it would cost in tax dollars. Under Measure B, the county's auditor-controller will prepare a fiscal impact statement to appear on the ballot with the measure.
Countywide elections Tuesday include the First District County Board of Supervisors race, three judicial elections, three county school board elections and races in the 29th State Senate district as well as the 55th Assembly district.
In a series of Congressional races, several of Orange County's longest serving legislators are expected to easily defend their seats.
Rep. Loretta Sanchez is widely expected to qualify for the runoff election to replace retiring Sen. Barbara Boxer. She is expected to square off against Kamala Harris, making it the first time a California senate race featured two democrats, women and minorities.
