Seal Beach Woman Appointed to Orange County Superior Court

A Seal Beach attorney is one of three people appointed to the Orange County Superior Court bench today by Gov. Jerry Brown.

Seal Beach resident Kreber Varipapa and two other attorneys were appointed to the Orange County Superior Court bench today by Gov. Jerry Brown.

Varipapa, 47, fills a spot vacated by the retirement of Judge Ronald P. Kreber.

Varipapa, who does not have a party affiliation, has worked in the Public Defender’s Office since 1998. She was also an adjunct professor at the University of Phoenix Criminology Department from 2004-07.

Varipapa earned a law degree from Western State University College of Law and a bachelor’s degree from Cal State Long Beach.

Orange County Public Defender Frank Ospino, 55, of Santa Ana, has been the county’s top public defender since 2012, and served in a variety of positions within the office since 1992.

Ospino was in private practice from 1990 to 1992 and worked as a deputy public defender from 1985 to 1990.

Ospino earned his law degree from UC Hastings College of Law and a bachelor’s degree from UC Irvine. The Democrat will replace retiring Judge Luis A. Rodriguez.

Orange County Deputy District Attorney Kathleen Roberts, 50, of Glendale, was appointed to fill the slot vacated by the retirement of Judge Francisco Briseno. The Democrat has worked in the Orange County prosecutor’s office since 1993, and before that worked in a private firm from 1990-1993.

Roberts earned his law and bachelor’s degrees from Pepperdine University.
