Security Drill Takes Place In Seal Beach Until Thursday: What To Know

SEAL BEACH, CA — Residents and commuters near the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station were advised to be prepared as the station participates in an annual Navy-wide security drill designed to prepare base personnel and families aboard the installation for a disaster.

“This will be one of the biggest exercises that we’ve run in years,” said base Training Officer Jay St. Germaine in a statement. “I’m really looking forward to the challenge and the great opportunities this will provide to make our disaster preparedness even better.”

Residents should be prepared for a host of fire, police and other first responder personnel on the base. They will also hear announcements from the "giant voice" loudspeaker system starting Tuesday through Thursday.

The exercises will take part at different locations on the base, according to the statement. Mass-casualty scenarios will be simulated.

Traffic in the area was not expected to be impacted, authorities said.
