HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA — A sewage spill has forced the closure of swimming and other activities in the Huntington Harbour area, officials say.

"Until further notice, in the city of Huntington Beach, all of the Huntington Harbour bay water area is closed," OC Beach Info reported.

The Los Angeles Times reported the spill was "the result of a cracked force main."

Bacteria levels were also high in Seal Beach, from the San Gabriel River jetty to 300 feet downcoast of the San Gabriel River jetty, as they have been since early June.

The closure was announced Monday night and will remain until water quality improves, officials say.
