Unemployment Rates Rise Slightly in Los Al, Rossmoor, Seal Beach

The changes mirror state- and county-wide trends, according to the latest data from the state Employment Development Department.

Unemployment rates rose slightly in Los Alamitos, Rossmoor and Seal Beach in January, the state Employment Development Department announced Friday.

The local trend mirrors overall county figures, where the unemployment rate was 7.1 percent in January, up from 6.8 in December. County-wide seasonally adjusted numbers were not available.

California's jobless rate was 9.8 percent in January, the same as December but down from January 2012, when the rate was 11 percent, according to the EDD.

The comparable estimates for the nation were 7.9 percent in January, 7.8 percent in December and 8.3 percent a year ago. Statewide, about 1.82 million people were out of work, up slightly from 1.81 million the previous month.
