Woman In The Walls: Firefighters Work To Free Her In Santa Ana

Orange County Fire Authority technical rescuers worked to free a woman who became stuck between the walls near an automotive shop.

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — Firefighters worked to free a woman who became trapped between two buildings in Santa Ana, officials said.

A woman was discovered stuck "in-between two walls of two commercial businesses," when 911 was called, according to Capt. Thanh Nguyen of the Orange County Fire Authority. Firefighters were dispatched at 2 p.m. to the 1000 block of N. Harbor Blvd. where they discovered the woman who was not wearing any clothes.

She was extracted by 4:30 p.m. and taken to an area hospital in an unknown condition. Her identity is unknown, as is how she became trapped between the walls, as of this report.

Firefighters worked approximately 2.5 hours to carefully extract the woman. They were unable to reach her in the space between buildings and had to remove a portion of the wall for her extraction.

Upon arrival, the OCFA drilled a hole in one of the walls and threaded a small camera through to get a better view before attempting to cut out parts of the wall to free her.

Workers in the area heard cries for help for 20 to 30 minutes before figuring out where she was, Nguyen said. The woman was discovered near an auto repair shop, so it is noisy and it was apparently difficult to pinpoint where the calls for help were coming from, Nguyen said.

"She was awake and is talking to firefighters when they arrived," Nguyen said.
