American Airlines Jet Makes Emergency Landing in San Jose
The jet hit a bird during takeoff.

An American Airlines flight had to return to Mineta San Jose International Airport for an emergency landing shortly after the plane struck a bird during takeoff this morning, an airport spokeswoman said.
American Airlines Flight 1118 was bound for Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and took off at 6:20 a.m. from San Jose, airport spokeswoman Rosemary Barnes said.
However, the aircraft struck a bird, disabling the plane's No. 2 engine, Barnes said.
The plane was able to safely turn around and land at the San Jose airport at 6:42 a.m. with no injuries reported on board, Barnes said.
The plane was able to taxi to a gate and its passengers were transferred to other flights, according to Barnes.
