• Bay Area's first 'living levee' opens at Palo Alto Baylands (sanjosespotlight.com) — A new 'living levee' at Palo Alto's Baylands is now helping protect the shoreline from sea level rise while improving how treated wastewater is filtered before it reaches the bay, directly affecting Los Altos and neighboring cities served by the regional plant. The project, part of a major multi-year plant renovation, also restores marsh habitat and could guide similar climate-resilience efforts around the Bay Area.
   

• Well-preserved mastodon tooth found in a creek: 'It was just sitting there' (kold.com) — A rare, well-preserved Pacific mastodon tooth is now being studied after a geomorphologist spotted it in a San Mateo County creek, with the fossil later photographed at the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District headquarters in Los Altos. The find, now donated to Stanford, is prompting new research and will be used for local public education about paleontology and habitat conservation.
