• Concerns over playground surfacing reach city council (losaltosonline.com) — Los Altos parents and kids packed the latest City Council meeting to oppose using poured-in-place rubber surfacing at Shoup and Grant parks, favoring wood chips instead. Speakers raised safety, heat, environmental, and aesthetic concerns, urging council to adopt the Parks, Arts, Recreation and Cultural Commission's recommendation, though the issue wasn't on the agenda for action yet.
   

• Haʻikū eighth grader wins national scholarship for gifted students : Maui Now (mauinow.com) — A Los Altos student, Gavin Hwang, has been named a Caroline D. Bradley Scholar, earning a four-year high school scholarship and personalized academic support from the Institute for Educational Advancement. He's one of just 26 gifted students nationwide selected this year, recognized for exceptional academic achievement and wide-ranging interests.
