ART CRIMES OF THE 20TH CENTURY: THEFT AND FORGERY
Hosted by Bay Area Older Adults of Silicon Valley.

Date: Thursday January 15, 2015
Location: San Jose CA 95133
For adults age 50+ Would you like to learn more about the mysterious underworld of art crime? The disappearance in 1911 of one of the world’s most famous artworks - Leonardo’s Mona Lisa - baffled the French police for two years, and the theft of some of world’s most important artworks from The Gardner Museum in Boston continues to perplex art crime detectives.
Why do thieves steal artworks that cannot be sold? The skill that art forgers have shown in the reproduction of famous works of Vermeer and Goya among others is no less than the sleight of hand shown by art thieves. Puzzles relating to some of the most high profile cases that have taken place in the last century will be examined in this lecture.
