El Camino Youth Symphony Fall Classic Concert

The Sinfonietta Orchestra premieres its season on November 15 at the Spangenberg Theatre in Palo Alto under the baton of Dr. Camilla Kolchinsky. The program will feature Haydn’s Symphony No. 103 (“Drumroll”), one of Haydn’s last and most impressive of the “London Symphonies,” as well as talented young artist Rachel Liu performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.1, Mvt. 1.
Dr. Camilla Kolchinsky, Conductor, received a Master of Music Degree with distinction from the State Music Conservatory of Moscow and completed the doctoral level program in conducting at the State Music Conservatory of Leningrad (St. Petersburg). She appeared regularly with the Bolshoi Theater, the National USSR State Orchestra, and the Moscow Philharmonic.

Since coming to the West in 1976, she has conducted the Philharmonic Orchestra in London, the Israel Philharmonic, the Swedish Radio Orchestra in Stockholm, the Oslo Philharmonic, the Brussels Radio Symphony Orchestra and many others. Before arriving in the Bay Area she served as Music Director and Principal Conductor of the University Symphony Orchestra and Opera of the University of California, Santa Barbara. Dr. Kolchinsky is the Permanent Guest Conductor of The First Austrian Chamber Orchestra in Vienna and the Guatemala Symphony in Guatemala.
Soloist Rachel Liu (pictured), 12, an eighth grader at Windemere Ranch Middle School in San Ramon, began her piano lessons with Ji An at age five and has studied with her current teacher Dr. Jed Galant for the past six years. Rachel was an all state winner at California Association of Professional Music Teachers Concerto Competition and Contemporary Music Festival Piano Competition. She was also two times winner at CAPMT Northern California Concerto Competition and an alternate at the Honors Auditions. She was selected to perform at the Junior Bach Music Festival concert and for Livermore Symphony Guild. Rachel excels in school and was an AAUW scholarship recipient for the TechTrek for Girls summer camp this past summer. She is an excellent soccer player and has been playing at gold/premier level since age seven.
