Friends of Los Altos Announces City Council Endorsements

FISHPAW AND GLEW FOR LOS ALTOS CITY COUNCIL ...

Announcement from the Friends of Los Altos:

The Board of Directors of the Friends of Los Altos, Inc. (FOLA), a non-profit, non-partisan, volunteer-run organization comprised of City of Los Altos residents, announced Tuesday that they have endorsed former mayor and current councilman Jarrett Fishpaw and newcomer Alexander Glew for election to the Los Altos City Council this November.

The FOLA Board’s primary criterion in selecting candidates to endorse is how well the values expressed by a candidate align with the values of Los Altos residents. The unanimous decision of the Board followed a thorough and unbiased endorsement process: all candidates were invited to complete an extensive questionnaire and to interview with a panel of FOLA Board members. The Board extends its appreciation to the candidates who participated in this comprehensive endorsement process.

The candidate questionnaire is posted on www.FriendsOfLosAltos.org.

“Los Altos is fortunate to have so many well-qualified candidates running for election to the Los Altos City Council this fall,” stated FOLA Board President David Casas. “The FOLA Board of Directors believes that a vigorously-contested election will allow voters to become better informed about the issues facing our city and will highlight the differences between candidates. After interviewing the candidates for Los Altos City Council who participated in our endorsement process, we are pleased to endorse those candidates who in our view will best serve our residents.”

Five candidates are running for two seats on the Los Altos City Council.

Jarrett Fishpaw is seeking his second term on the Los Altos City Council. Now 27, Fishpaw represents the next generation of Los Altans. When he became the Mayor of Los Altos at the age of 25, Fishpaw was the youngest mayor in the 60-year history of the City. A Los Altos native who attended LASD schools, Fishpaw is an Eagle Scout who owns his own home near downtown and is a realtor with Coldwell Banker.

During the four years since he was elected, Fishpaw’s well-reasoned and thoughtful summations, grounded in his analysis of the information available, have assisted the Council in making decisions that best serve City of Los Altos residents.

Alexander Glew is a professional engineer who impressed the FOLA Board with his integrity and strategic thinking on the issues the Los Altos City Council must address going forward. A 17-year resident who has lived in both north and south Los Altos, at 50 Glew is younger than a majority of the current Council and several other candidates.

In addition, Glew doesn’t own any commercial property in the City and his business is located in Mountain View, so he has no financial conflicts of interest. He offers a fresh perspective, and the FOLA Board is confident that Glew will seek out the facts and guide the Council to sound decisions that reflect the values of City of Los Altos residents.
