Local AAUW Kickoff Meeting Sept. 13,10:30 AM Hillview Comm. Ctr.
Los Altos/Mtn. View Branch of AAUW kicks off new membership year with program focused on 21st century mission - More Girls in Tech!

The Los Altos / Mtn View branch of AAUW (American Association of University Women) will hold a Membership Kickoff Meeting at 10:30 AM on September 13th at Hillview Community Center’s Social Hall (97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos). Local middle school girls who attended the Grace Hopper Tech Trek Science Camp at Stanford this summer on scholarships provided by AAUW in partnership with local Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs will speak about their experiences. Refreshments will be provided.
Bettina Chen, the keynote speaker for the meeting, is a graduate of Stanford’s Engineering department and is a co-founder of Roominate Toys, focused on creating toys which will appeal to girls and at the same time enable them to develop skills in math, design, and engineering.
The Los Altos/Mtn. View branch of AAUW is putting a local twist on AAUW’s traditional mission to promote equity and opportunity for women in education. The local focus is to encourage participation by girls and women in the technical fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) where they are currently very under-represented.
