London Markets, my favorites and a nice walk

Piccadilly Market and Camden Locks Market, everything from food, books, antiques, arts and crafts, something for everyone.

London Markets – my favorites and a nice walk

Just had my weekly Zoom meeting with my sister who is living in Cambridge, England. We talked about what we are going to do when I can visit England and we can spend some time together.

What we love to do, is spend a few days together in London, and two places we love to go to is Piccadilly Market, and Regents Canal, and Camden Lock market. Before this virus situation, I was able to visit the United Kingdom three or four times a year, and always spent a few days in London, my favorite city in the whole world.

Piccadilly is open from Monday to Saturday between 10.00 am and 6.30 p.m. The market is located in the courtyard at St.James’s Church in the heart of the West End, just yards from Piccadilly Circus.

Monday specializes in food, Tuesday offers antiques, Wednesday to Saturday, arts and crafts. We have gone all days, and at different times of the year. Always carry a brolly. Buy yourself one of those folding small umbrellas which fits in your bag.

Regent’s Canal runs from Little Venice in west London to the Thames at Limehouse in east London. The walk passes through Regent’s Park, and Camden Lock Market en route and ends near Camden Passage antiques market.

Start at Warwick Ave Station (Bakerloo Underground line) finish at Angel Station(Northern Underground line) 4 ¾ miles. Eat at the Warwick Castle pub in Warwick Place and the floating café in Little Venice at the start of the walk. A variety of shops, pubs, stalls etc in and around Camden Lock Market at the half way stage and in Islington at the end of the walk.

Camden Lock Arts and Crafts Market is open on Saturday and Sunday. Camden Passage antiques market in Islington is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays and sells books on Thursday. The canal side walk opens at 7.30 am on weekdays and 9.00am on Sundays .

We always make a day of our adventure. We have breakfast at the start, lunch on route, sometimes a picnic from a deli for lunch, and dinner at a pub. I have to have a shandy – half beer and half lemonade. Then, we go to the theater. The Warwick Castle pub is my favorite before we start, and Doreen likes the floating café in Little Venice. If I was ever lucky enough to win the lottery, I would buy a house in this area of London. You will see why I love it.

Even if you are not interested in wandering around the two markets, it is a nice walk and take a cruise along the canal.

We always find something we can’t live without. The markets have unique stuff….. treasures as I always tell my husband.

What do I miss about England. Fish and Chips, bacon sandwiches, and rain.

Enjoy a fun day at the markets.
