Perfect Moments in Fiji

An easy journey from the West Coast, good value, either stay on one of the islands or take a cruise

PERFECT MOMENTS IN FIJI

Fiji is a great destination which I have been to many years and I always considered it a draw back to have to fly from San Francisco to Los Angeles before I could start my journey. Now that there are non stop flights offered to us in Northern California, it will be a definite plus on offering it as a destination.

Fiji is one of the world’s most idyllic locations to celebrate romance. With 333 sun kissed islands and 4,000 miles of coral reef fringing white sand beaches, this South Pacific nation offers infinite picture perfect settings in which to make the meaningful milestones of a relationship from a life changing marriage proposal to the wedding and honeymoon and honoring the anniversaries beyond with a renewal of vows in magical Fiji.

While Fiji offers its pick of seaside resorts and pristine beaches on the main island of Viti Levu, smaller, secret escapes beckon for an extended rendezvous. Within the less visited northern archipelago is Vanua Levu, Fiji’s second largest swath of land and the mainstay for Fijian sugar cane cultivation. Life is especially sweet in Savusavu, the tiny town on Vanua Levu’s southern coast where yachts bob in the bay and black pearls, raised and plucked from these South Pacific waters are fashioned into jewelry, a perfect beloved keepsake.

Less than five miles off Vanua Levu’s southeast coast lies the garden island of Taveuni, a treasure of abundant emerald rainforest. The trails leading to Lake Tagimaucia, hidden in a volcanic crater at the island’s center offers surprising romantic gestures along the way like scarlet and white tagimaucia flowers leaning forward as it offering themselves as a bouquet while orange fruit cloves serenade above.

Fiji’s magnetism lies not just in its abundant natural beauty, but also in the warmth of its local culture. A bride may infuse Fijian traditions into her ceremony, reclining in a throne as she floats aboard a bilbili, a traditional bamboo raft accompanied by a group of warriors clad in grass skirts. Her gown billowing in the breeze, she is lifted on land as the calls of a warrior sound from a davui (conch shell). Once she arrives at her groom’s side, the couple adorned in salusalus (fragrant flowered necklaces) have a wonderful choir to greet them, framed by the sea and soft sands. This is a wonderful ceremony to witness.

The spirit of Fiji also emerges in it welcoming retreats, perhaps in an overwater thatched bure bungalow where flowers make it a very special place.

Here are some ideas for you. We can arrange a perfect proposal spot at Namale Resort and Spa, or co-ordinate a wedding at the Intercontinental Fiji Golf Resort which offers a live camera feed from both the beach and the wedding pavilion. The honeymoon at Matangi Private Island Resort is a great spot since it has only 12 bures nestled in 240 acres, and the anniversary could be at Likuliku Lagoon Resort, one of the top five South Pacific resorts according to Bride’s Magazine, and this is one of my favorites. For a family occasion, you can find no better place than the Wakaya Club and Spa featuring nine planation style cottages set in 2200 acres of paradise on a private island.

There is also a wonderful cruise you can take thru the islands, which stops every day at a different location so you have the opportunity to dive and snorkel in lots of different places. This is not a luxury ship, but offers great value to explore the islands.
