Royal India with Tiger Safari

Soft adventure, fantastic price, why not add India to your bucket list.

Royal India with Tiger Safari

I go to lots of presentations and travel conferences around the world which keeps me up to date on what’s new in the travel industry and India as a destination in not on a lot of people’s bucket list. I was impressed with this destination the other night at a Pacific and Asia Travel meeting.

This is a very popular holiday destination for those living in the United Kingdom which I am from. My parents lived in India, with the Diplomatic Service, so I grew up hearing them speak the language, and eating dishes with curry. Lots of history to learn about, customs very different than anywhere else, music and dancing, and fantastic shopping.

It is a long way to go. 16 ½ hours from the West Coast to India. I would definitely try to go from San Francisco for example, rather than fly to London and change planes there. You add hours onto your already long journey. I avoid going to Heathrow Airport if I can. Another “new” way to go is to Dubai on Emirates, then change planes, since Emirates is superb in economy class, and a dream in business and first class. Their entertainment system is outstanding along with the service. If you can stay a few days in Dubai, that is a wonderful experience and I breaks the journey up.

Best time to go is September to April when the weather is cooler.

One holiday which caught my attention was a 9 day, 7 nights trip, including air on Singapore Airlines, accommodation, daily breakfast, all sightseeing, jungle safari, and other items all for $1799 until March 31, 2019. I would also look at doing a week’ cruise on the Bahmaputra River, Assam. North Eastern India. Since the river comes from Tibet, the weather is in the 70’s, and you will see lots of wildlife, like elephants, tigers, and a wide variety of birds as you go down the river. Only 46 passengers, and 30 crew, so this is soft adventure in luxury. Assam is renowned for it’s tea plantations, rich flora and fauna. You will see many Buddhist Monasteries, Hindu Temples, and village culture at some very remote places.

You can do a pre or a post add on to this trip. See the Golden Triangle, Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur, or just visit one of them whichever tickles your fancy.

If you have been everywhere, and want something different at a fantastic price, this would be worth considering.Maureen Jones
