Santa Clara Co. Firefighters Free Person Stuck In Garbage Truck

BREAKING: The incident happened Wednesday morning in Los Altos.

LOS ALTOS, CA — Santa Clara County firefighters came to the rescue of a man who was stuck inside a garbage truck for about 30 minutes Wednesday morning in Los Altos, a fire official said. A total of 10 fire personnel responded to the incident, which was reported at about 9:30 a.m. on Nightingale Court, according to Luisa Rapport, spokeswoman for the Santa Clara County Fire Department.

"Upon arrival, rescue crews found the individual in the compactor," Rapport said.

Although the man was not pinned in the machinery, he was unable to remove himself from the compactor, she said.

Rescue personnel provided the man with medical care while working to free him. At 9:59 a.m., crews successfully freed him from the garbage truck, Rapport said.

The patient was then taken by a Santa Clara County EMS ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, the spokeswoman said.
